Oakhurst Community Garden Project Decatur, Georgia About Sukkah Build Event Calendar of Events Sponsors and Partners Press
Sukkah: ATL is a grassroots public-space Sukkah project open to the entire community to celebrate the Harvest Festival and appreciate the Oakhurst Community Garden Project’s role in the local food system. Architects from Design Plus Collective designed the “Seen by Unseen” Sukkah as their entry to the Sukkah City competition in New York. This extraordinary structure becomes a gathering place for Jewish celebration and observance. All are invited to participate in constructing the Sukkah on October 9. The Oakhurst Community Garden is an inspired setting for a traditional hut that farmers would live in during the last period of harvest before the winter rains. It is during this time that Jews thank God for the completed harvest through ritual and imagery.
Volunteer to help build the Sukkah at the Oakhurst Community Garden Project. If you have children bring them along! Family programming will be facilitated by Jewish Kids Groups and enjoy musical samplings from the Atlanta Jewish Music Festival. Enjoy this video from last year’s build by Russell Gottschalk.
Once constructed, the Sukkah will be available and open to the public to eat, pray, and come together.
